Quotes!

They're everywhere, people just can't seem to help themselves from sharing and sharing - and - sharing - and - re-sharing, and sticking them into any online venue. Often, they take up the bulk of what the person does online.

Quotes!

Quotes from movies or song lyrics, quotes that are rightly attributed, or falsely attributed to various people or fictional characters, or simply anonymous. As long as they appear to be deep, profound, inspirational, motivational, witty on the surface, and they resinate with whoever is doing the re-sharing...

You'd be surprised how many misquotes there are.

Less common quotes are still memes when they take up more bandwidth than what the person actually writes, and especially when they keep appearing on email and forum signatures. They are as annoying as TV commercials.

People engaging in quote-mania don't realize that these quotes have the same effect as other types of memes, especially the cause/raising awareness varieties.

I stopped reading a blog from someone I used to sort of know online, because she changed it from a blog where she put down her personally typed content, to a quotes blog full of pithy requoted stuff from famous people.

If I want movie quotes or song lyrics, I'll go to the movie or listen to the song. If I want to read something a famous person wrote, I'll get the book. I want to read personally written content from people, not re-shared quotes with some sort of underlying message about how to live or think etc.
