It is often followed by a gushing glurge, full of excuses for re-sharing those stupid joke memes.
The Breast Cancer Community has a version that replaces the word 'man' with 'woman' of course…

The rest of the story goes as follows, and I'll summarize to get you through as quickly and painlessly as possible.
Dead man and dead dog go down the road to a set of pearly gates - bingo, Heaven! Oops, no pets allowed. Man and dog go the other direction and get to a quaint little farm set up where he gets a drink of water and the dog is allowed a drink from a bowl and is not turned away. But oops, that place is called Heaven too. And when the man gets confused over this, the guy in charge of this Farmville - I mean, Heaven, says they're just glad that other fake Heaven which is really Hell, screens out all the people who leave their "best friends" (AKA dogs) behind.

Since when does Hell screen out people for bad behavior? This doesn't even fly in a joke. It simply doesn't make sense. And not everybody's best friend is a dog.
Then the odious saccharin "I care sooo much for you that I send you viral jokes!" comes.
