Anthony de Croud's "Chinese Proverbs" Hoax Meme

This so-called Chinese proverb chain, (not the tasteless off-colour one,) supposedly written by one Anthony de Croud (does that sound Chinese to you?" was posted on this blog.

It is laughed at here by someone, who, if I'm reading the info correctly, appears to be a Christian as well. WOOT!

Robin Bloor wrote a funny background story on Anthony De Croud.

Now, let's mangle this meme!

--

🤥Meme1: Anthony de Croud is the author of this Chinese Proverb chain letter. ABOUT MONEY

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: No such person, and these so-called "proverbs" are neither Chinese nor real.

😏Meme2: Money...

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY A HOUSE, BUT NOT A HOME.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Sure, that fits, if you buy a house for someone other than yourself, but if you buy yourself some sort of shelter to live in, you have bought yourself a home.

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY A CLOCK, BUT NOT TIME.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Duh!

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY A BED, BUT NOT SLEEP.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: actually you can buy medications that make you sleep, so yes, with money, you can also buy sleep.

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY A BOOK, BUT NOT KNOWLEDGE.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Duh! You can still get knowledge from books you buy, you can also get it from simply living - life experience. and part of that experience includes, spending and receiving money. No kidding!

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU CAN SEE A DOCTOR, BUT NOT GOOD HEALTH.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: You don't need money to see good health, or feel it, for that matter. if you're in good health, you feel it and you look it, regardless of whether you pay money to see a doctor or not.

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY A POSITION, BUT NOT RESPECT.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: On the other hand, you can also have no money and act in a way that doesn't get you respect. You can also get positions without bribing people for them if they are reputable.

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY BLOOD, BUT NOT LIFE.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well considering you have to pay to get a transfusion which would save your life, you've just used money to help save your life, so there goes that theory.

🤥Meme1: WITH MONEY YOU

😏Meme2: It

🤥😏Memes: CAN BUY SEX, BUT NOT LOVE.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Looks like she just stepped in something nasty* Yeah well, the people who are into that sort of thing aren't looking' for love anyway, so this chain letter isn't going to make them change their minds about *cough* Next?

😏Meme2: So you see money isn't everything.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Duh, anything isn't everything, actually. Everything is everything.

😏Meme2: And it often causes pain and suffering.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wrong again. Money doesn't cause pain and suffering, the lack of it sure as heck can, but so does greed. Money doesn't cause pain and suffering, poverty, greed, and power-lust do that.

😏Meme2: I tell you all this because I am your Friend,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Hiss* No you're not. You just conned friends into sending this meme...

😏Meme2: and as your Friend

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Knock it off!

😏Meme2: I want to take away your pain and suffering...

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wrong again. You want to get this meme spreading. I've become immune and pretty hostile to memes that wax all sappy because in truth, they were written by some anonymous dweeb and not personally by my real friends. So cut the crap!

😏Meme2: So send me all your money

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Bzzzzzzzzt. Joke-fail. Memes tend to not make me laugh, either...

😏Meme2: And I will suffer for you.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah I'd just bet. No money from me, and no passing on to anyone else either.

😏Meme2: Cash is fine.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And it's mine...

🤥Meme1: THIS CHINESE PROVERB BRINGS LUCK.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Bosh.

🤥Meme1: IT ORIGINATED FROM THE NETHERLANDS.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: HOLD IT! Huh!? Since when is China in the Netherlands, or the Netherlands in China?

🤥Meme1: THIS PROVERB HAS GONE AROUND THE WORLD 8 TIMES.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And you know this, how? Anyway, if it's been around the world even more than once, it needs to die.

🤥Meme1: NOW IT IS YOUR TURN TO HAVE GOOD LUCK ONCE YOU HAVE RECEIVED IT.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wrong, it's time for this meme to have the bad luck of crossing my screen and getting mangled.

🤥Meme1: THIS IS NOT A JOKE

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Mean scowl, punches meme-originator in the head* So who's laughing? Well, I was until you did the stupid "This isn't a joke" claim. If you had any idea how sick I get of trolls and memes that are full of nonsense, claiming they aren't jokes, you'd do well to run away from me as fast as you can, while you still can!

🤥Meme1: YOUR LUCK WILL ARRIVE BY MAIL OR VIA THE INTERNET

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Luck doesn't just *plunk* arrive in the mail or via the internet. Luck is comprised of human experiences. When they're bad, for lack of a better term, we call it "bad luck" and when they're good, we call it "good luck" but luck itself isn't something you can just package up and send off to anyone, or send via some not-so-magical electronic means.

🤥Meme1: SEND A COPY TO THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED LUCK.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: No, and who am I to decide who needs luck anyway? I can decide who needs spam, AKA getting this chain letter sent to them, and that would be, NOBODY!

🤥Meme1: DO NOT SEND MONEY,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: I wouldn't send money to you anyway, and I don't just send out money to everyone as if it grew on trees either. and, I see, you don't want a possible money trail leading back to you for starting something illegal...

🤥Meme1: BECAUSE YOU CANNOT BUY LUCK,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well, since you believe luck can be plunked into the mail and shipped off to people, it stands to reason that you just contradicted yourself.

🤥Meme1: AND DO NOT KEEP IT FOR MORE THAN 4 DAYS.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Since I've had to move sites, this meme has been sitting, mangled in my private files for a lot longer than four days, and now it's going to remain mangled and bleeding out even longer.

🤥Meme1: ONE MAN, GOT HIS FIRST COPY OF THE PROVERB IN 1953 AND ASKED HIS SECRETARY TO MAKE HIM 20 COPIES.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well that was very stupid of him. A boss who makes his employees replicate hoaxes when there is real work to be done? Very, very stupid.

🤥Meme1: NINE HOURS LATER HE WON $99 MILLION IN THE LOTTERY IN HIS COUNTRY.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Where, China, or the Netherlands? Bull. Even if he did win a lottery, it wouldn't be the result of his misusing his position and employees by making them spread chain letters.

🤥Meme1: AN EMPLOYEE OF HIS RECEIVED THE SAME CARD, BUT DID NOT FORWARD IT.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And if he lost his job, the only connection between that and this meme would be that his stupid boss fired him because he was mad the employee was smarter than him and broke it.

🤥Meme1: A FEW DAYS LATER HE LOST HIS JOB.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: What did I tell you? The boss was terminally stupid!

🤥Meme1: AFTER THAT, HE CHANGED HIS MIND, SENT IT, AND BECAME RICH.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Rich only in the sense that this whole tale is rich. So did his stupid boss hire him back?

🤥Meme1: IN 1967, ANOTHER MAN GOT THE PROVERB; HE LAUGHED ABOUT IT AND DISCARDED IT.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Very smart man. Anyway, you never even bothered to name these people in your ridiculous list of phoney examples, and if this thing had been going around since 1957 and 1967, then it's time it died.

🤥Meme1: A FEW DAYS LATER HIS SON GOT SICK.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Dude, it's a stupid chain letter, not an actual biological virus and can't literally make people sick if they or their loved ones laugh at and refuse to re-share it. If this guy's son got sick, it would've happened regardless...

🤥Meme1: THE MAN LOOKED FOR THE NOTE, MADE 20 COPIES, AND SENT THEM.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh so he suddenly turned stupid too? *Rolling eyes*

🤥Meme1: NINE DAYS LATER,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Nine again? More numerology BS.

🤥Meme1: HE GOT GOOD NEWS: HIS SON WAS SAFE AND SOUND.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah well, again, no chain letter can cure people, and I'll assume this dork's son was sick with something that normally clears up in nine days, like a cold.

🤥Meme1: An RAF officer received $470. (Mild good luck) Joe Elliot received 4 thousand dollars and he lost it because he broke the chain

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Bull...Crap...Bull...Crap...Bull...Crap...

🤥Meme1: In the Philippines Dinners Wollaha lost his wife 51 days after receipt of the letter.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: he lost his wife in some Dinners?

🤥Meme1: He had circulated the letter

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So he too, went stupid...

🤥Meme1: and before death he received 7 thousand dollars.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: he could come into a huge windfall before his death without ever sending any copies of this meme. You don't just get rich by being stupid.

🤥Meme1: Don Peulchile received the letter and threw it away and in nine days

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: There you go with that numerology again.

🤥Meme1: he was dead

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Bosh. He never existed to begin with.

🤥Meme1: Good Fortune is not by chance, but can be found and received.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wrong, sometimes it is by chance.

🤥Meme1: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. And all these things will be added unto you.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Scowling* Don't drag God's name into this hoax! Besides, I thought you said it was Chinese proverbs, so why aren't you quoting confucius?

🤥Meme1: THIS CARD HAS BEEN SENT BY ANTHONY DE CROUD, A MISSIONARY IN SOUTH AFRICA.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: There is no such person and no missionary who believes in God, spreads memes.

🤥Meme1: BEFORE 96 HOURS PASS YOU BY,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Again with the tantra time limit? Welll I'm not sending it anywhere within 96 hours or 9 days or 51 days, or 1 day, are you getting this?

🤥Meme1: YOU SHOULD FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO 20 OTHER PEOPLE. YOUR LUCK WILL COME WITHIN 4 DAYS FROM THE MOMENT YOU RECEIVED THE MESSAGE.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wrong. What should be done with this meme is mangle it, either immediately, or when there is time to spare. There is no bad luck if you don't smash right away or within some silly time limit. But the sooner it is throtled, the sooner more people can get the message not to spread the stupidity.

🤥Meme1: WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Let's see. If I was to re-share this meme, or, as you call it, a "card", I would lose IQ points, lose my good reputation, my dignity, and probably a few friends who would be really ticked off at me for spamming, though whether they'd come out and tell me or not is another matter. What would I gain from spreading this meme? Nothing but a bad reputation and enemies.

🤥Meme1: THIS CARD HAS JUST BEEN SENT TO YOU FOR GOOD LUCK.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Your luck just ran out.

🤥Meme1: NOW LUCK IS FINALLY AT YOUR DOOR.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: I haven't received a package of luck in the mail, and don't believe in chain letter luck.

🤥Meme1: SEND 20 COPIES TO ACQUAINTANCES, FRIENDS, AND FAMILY.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: I care too much about people to spam them with this junk.

🤥Meme1: ONE DAY LATER

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Nothing will happen in connection with it, whether I spam it all over creation or not, except for making a bunch of people mad and myself look like a gullible twit if I decided to go with stupid and spread it around.

🤥Meme1: YOU WILL GET GOOD NEWS OR A NICE SURPRISE.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, can it already. You can't predict the future, let alone force it to go a certain way via this meme.

🤥Meme1: I SENT THIS CARD EXPECTING IT TO GO AROUND THE WORLD.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well you can expect to have it trashed. All memes come to a screeching halt when up against this mangler. Besides, what do you want it going around the world again for? I thought you said it already went around the world 8 times. Well, that's 8 times too many.

🤥Meme1: SEND ONLY 20 COPIES AND EXPECT GOOD TIDINGS TO ARRIVE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Facepalm* I already told you a zillion times your meme won't make good things happen!

🤥Meme1: IMPORTANT: DO NOT MODIFY THE TEXT THAT I SENT YOU.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well, I don't know if inserting comments and specifying which are yours and which are mine qualifies as 'modifying' but I'm not spamming it anywhere, as I've told you a gazillion times before, and you didn't send it to me. I saw it posted on the internet.

🤥Meme1: FORWARD IT EXACTLY THE WAY YOU GOT IT.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: No, no, and - NO! Besides, why do you want everybody making more copies of this stupid thing and sending it on without modifying it? Oh, right, you're a troll and you want everybody to spam the net so it looks the same everywhere a person goes. Bleck.

I'm going to do my part to put a kibosh into your scheme.

🤥Meme1: GOOD LUCK!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Whatever, no thanks, I'm not grateful for your good luck wish so shut up already and good riddance!
