Sea Of Political Correctness

Since 2005, some people seem intent on sucking the enjoyment and the meaning out of Christmas, and I don't mean who you might expect me to say, considering I am a Christian.

I remember a time before the infamous nonsense war of words got started in 2005. Before then, people said and saw various greetings everywhere. There was "Merry Christmas" there was "Happy holidays" there was "Season's greetings" and "Good tidings" and nobody got it into their heads that using any of those other than "Merry Christmas" was considered politically correctness trying to kill Christianity. Back then, people didn't use it as a politically correct tool to kill Christmas either. All greetings were taken for what they were intended to be.

I open my email and get one for a site featuring some post or other by some user calling themself "SayMerryChristmas" and I just want to scream. I know what that's all about, have seen this "We gotta save Christmas by saying 'Merry Christmas' and completely annihilating 'happy holidays' far too many times than I care to count, cropping up in memes every year.

I go on the web and this dreaded alarmism and whinge-fest shows up on blogs and online journals.

Going on Facebook, I see various chain statuses and other posts including the War On Christmas stuff. It crops up on posts made by contacts and their commenters who have been told we are awash in a sea of political correctness and must combat it to save Christmas and the right to be Christian. While that message is unfortunately true at times, the really irksome thing is that then people think we must save Christmas by spreading memes!

ARGH!

😡Meme: I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone a Merry Christmas this year ...

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So, does that mean you have to actually make an effort to wish people a Mary Christmas? Sad. It's no effort for me. And have you not bothered with it in previous years, then? Some Christmas spirit, huh.

😡Meme: My way of saying that I am celebrating the birth Of Jesus Christ.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Everybody knows that Christmas is about the birth of Christ, or if they don't, there is plenty of information about Christmas that is real info about the event and its celebration, nothing you'll convey or find in a stupid meme.

😡Meme: So I am asking my email buddies, if you agree with me, to please do the same.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Whether or not I agree with celebrating Christmas has nothing to do with this stupid meme.

😡Meme: And if you'll pass this on to your email buddies, and so on...

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And if I won't do anything so obnoxious, you'll what? Think I just killed Christmas?

Look, I'll write my own personal Merry Christmas' to my friends. And just a FYI I am sooooooooo sick of this whole Merry Christmas VS. happy holidays thing. I would love to see a lot more people ditching the "happy holidays" for "Merry Christmas" - that is, if someone wants to say "happy holidays" it's their prerogative, but it's disgusting how people are deliberately replacing "MC" with "hh" because they're so afraid of being politically incorrect... If you want to say "Merry Christmas" then say it.

But honestly, we're n't going to stop toxic political correctness by spreading memes. It's going to take real action, in the real world, offline. There's nothing wrong with "happy holidays" either except that it has been used lately as a politically correct tool. Get rid of PC-ness, and then nobody should be upset over which greeting is said.

Yes, I would love to see "happy holidays" and anything to do with any holiday removed from the politically correct lexicon. I'd love to see pc-ness done away with altogether, along with the attempts to oppose it by re-sharing these desperate memes, which only devalue and undermine efforts to get rid of pc-ness.

I mean, if we're supposed to say "hh" instead of "MC" then by the same token we should also stop saying "happy birthday" "happy Valentine's Day" "happy Thanksgiving" "happy earth day" too, and replace ALL of those with the generic politically correct "happy holidays" every time! Yes, definitely ditch Earth Day...

No?

Well then, pc-thought police and meme-originators alike, leave my Christmas and other holidays alone!

😡Meme: maybe we can prevent one more American tradition from being lost in the sea of "Political Correctness".

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: ARGH! As much as I disdain political correctness, I must remind you that Christmas is not an "American tradition" it's a Christian observance, and Christmas is celebrated all over the world, with all sorts of differing traditions coming from all sorts of nationalities. Political correctness stinks, but you're not going to quash it or save American traditions or Christmas with chain letters!

Christmas originated with Christ's birth, in Bethlehem, not in America.

😡Meme: To one and All... Jesus is the reason for the season!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Christian that I am, even I'm sick of seeing that "reason for the season" thang showing up in meme after meme! Each meme containing that phrase, detracts from it, turning what was once a witty ditty into an over-killed annoying Christmas meme on its own!

Please oh please oh please! Stop it and do something sincerely Christmasy to celebrate Christmas instead!

Everyone who cares about keeping Christmas needs to make a concerted effort offline to ditch any temptation to go politically correct with "happy holidays". I mean, if you just blurt out "happy holidays" as an actual greeting, that's one thing. It's fine, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But if you start to say "Mary Chr - " and then go "Oh, no, I should say happy holidays so I don't offend anyone" then it's better you just keep your mouth shut.

Thank you, fellow Christian Greg Taylor, for an excellent post Greg Taylor - It's OK To Say Happy Holidays

The 'War on Christmas' agenda and chain letters! - Blog entry written by a fellow Christian, I'm happy to say!
