Hating Harry Potter

Contributed by Harry Potter Hater

My dislike and annoyance against Harry Potter is not due diligence. Never read any of the books, and seen one of the movies (ok, I've seen 10 minutes of one them)

It seems like my hate for that annoying creature can be categorized as a "gut" hate. I don't like him, I cannot stand him. Many may argue, "if you haven't even read the books and haven't seen the movies, you better shut up". Nah! First of all, putting this website together was fun and I had a good time. And running a platform for Harry Potter dislikers is an honor. I saw many "I hate Harry Potter" forum threads online, but it's all sproadic. Why not give a central point of hate to that thing.

Aren't we all glad that it's all over and "HE DIED"... (or did he not???)

Ocean Elf: Well, no, he didn't. But yes, I'm glad the series wound up.

But - Harry Potter became a big book meme early, and is still a meme. Long after the series ended, sort of...Well, not quite. There is "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" now.. People still talk about HP, and as you know, there is even a theme park for it.

I still think it was the hype that did it rather than the story actually being that good. I slogged through four books and can only remember some general things. I never became attached to the characters, and found myself cringing and laughing at the dumb names some of them as well as their terms for various things "muggles" came up. Book 4 was a total disappointment as Cedric Diggory ended up killed because of Voldy, yeah, him again... What Voldy did to Ginny in book 3 was also twisted. Within those big main plots were countless little misadventures with weird ghosts and creatures that I don't remember the names of let alone what they all were.

But even if much of that minutia hasn't been ingrained in everyone's memory, people still talk about Harry Potter, and Voldemort, especially when they want to vilify someone by making dumb comparisons to Voldy.

I haven't read Twilight either, but it's vampy romance. So I wouldn't like it. The Hunger Games being about kids being killed for entertainment. Yuck! No, thanks! You really don't have to read or watch something to know you aren't going to like it. It's actually better not to waste hours of your life reading and watching stuff you're pretty sure you won't like, just to please elitist whiny fandoms. And that's it for this section? My comments were longer than your rant/explanation... Hmm.

A Love Hate Email

Written by Harrry Potter Hater

Recently got this email from a lover hater boy. Quite cute indeed :)

Ocean Elf: Oooh, I'm going to be chiming in with my 2cents. This means whoever's saying something will be indicated, so "Harry Potter Hater" will be 'HPH', nameless fan-brat will be called 'Howler' and I'm Ocean Elf, naturally.

Here goes.

HPH: HARRY POTTER SUCKS.

Howler: IN YOUR DREAMS.

Ocean Elf: Like it or not, Harry Potter really does suck to some people, including me.

Howler: You do realise that Harry Potter owns Twilight?

Ocean Elf: You do realize that some of us don't like either and think they both suck, right?

Howler: And that this is merely a hate website whereas Twilight has a factual, interesting "twilightsucks.com", like, it's REAL, and who can blame them- true- whereas this site is just for those biased, narrow-minded idiots who just hate HP for no particular reason?

Ocean Elf: Incase you missed the bulletin, like or dislike of any series isn't that cut and dry. Okay, I'll try to spell it out for you. First, the simple explanation. Disliking Twilight doesn't equal good while disliking Harry Potter equals bad. Now let's get into the slightly more advanced concept. Everyone dislikes something for different reasons.

Okay, now for something sure to blow your mind.: Some of us actually dislike all of these series - HP, Twilight, Shades Of Grey, and The Hunger Games. I'll give you time to pick yourself up off the floor before delving any deeper into this.

Howler: Oh, and may I add, on the A&R Top 100 bestsellers, HP is still on top of the charts? (Oh, and yeah, Twilight is only 2nd)???

Ocean Elf: Because of the hype, the fandoms, both series became memes. I never thought much of the Best Sellers list anyway. I couldn't care which comes first when they are both cruddy IMO and I'm not into stupid competitions over which is supposedly better.

Howler: I know that I'm taking this personally,

Ocean Elf: Admitting the problem is the first step in the right direction.

Howler: but being 15 years of age,

Ocean Elf: Doesn't get you an exemption from having your behaviour questioned or called out. I'm tired of people pulling the age card trying to get away with things online.

Howler: and being obsessed with HP since year 2 may sound pretty pathetic,

Ocean Elf: Clearly, you are aware you have a problem. So what are you doing about it besides ranting at a site for going against the HP-love trend?

Howler: I must say that whoever invented this site suffers from fnsahjlgnardyugbaeg-syndrome.

Ocean Elf: From what? I tried to look that up and found nada.

Howler: (Not quite sure what I just wrote but anyway).

Ocean Elf: LOL! You really are desperate. I think if anyone is suffering from any kind of syndrome, it is you.

Howler: Oh, and the poll- "Do you hate HP"?-> Is that referring to the story and characters, or Daniel Radcliffe? Cos I won't deny the fact that Dan is a crap actor not to mention drop-dead fugly,

Ocean Elf: 'Fugly' is a 4chan/encyclopedia dramatica term, and I'm guessing it is shorthand for f-bombing ugly. Although that kind of talk is pretty much expected from fan-brats, it does absolutely nothing to help them make their arguments any better.

Daniel Radcliff has nothing to do with it, or it would've been "Daniel Radcliff Sucks" and not "Harry Potter Sucks." And that you dislike somebody based on looks really makes you a loser in my opinion.

Howler: but if making a poll, be sure to invest one next time in the actual book, because everyone agrees Dan is NOT cute, but HP in general? [pwns] all.

Ocean Elf: Look, man, you don't speak for everyone. It is Radcliff, and not you, who starred in the HP movies, but it isn't the movies that are the problem anyway. They wouldn't have come into existence if it weren't for the books, which suck according to some of us, like it or not. Sensible people don't base their loves or dislikes on shallow things such as appearance anyway. Sure, it helps, but it isn't the only/first/most important factor.

And that's it for the email. HPH had nothing to say in return. I was looking forward to seeing a response to it. Oh well...

Now, I think HPH was in error when describing this email. The fan was not undecided about loving or not loving Harry Potter. They love HP, just not a certain actor in the movie version.

Okay, next section.

Harry Potter Hater in a Fan Forum. Part I

Written by Administrator

Not that I wanted to troll the Harry Potter Fan forums, but to see what's actually going on in those "love" sites; I visited one . Indeed, I registered with a pretty provocative name for that forum "harrypotterhaters".

Ocean Elf: That wasn't too bright.

HPH: And introduced myself in the "Introductions" thread. Read on to see what happened to me :)

First off, I was kindly asked to remove my http://www.harrypotterhaters.com link from my signature. Kinda makes sense. So, I did remove it.

Ocean Elf: I would've just removed you, right off.

HPH: Some excerpts from my "introduction thread"....

"I...I am lost for words. Why would you join this site and put up that link? Does it bother you so much that other people enjoy something that you can't find entertainment out of? Must you ruin everyone else's day just because you didn't like a couple of books out of ALL the books in the world. And it is to my attention that you have not even read the books or seen past 10 minutes of one of the movies, how could you have such loathing for something that which you know nothing about? And if you don't know why you have wasted your time and money creating that "site" of yours, why would you expect people that take tome out of their lives to talk about Harry Potter to go to a site that flames and slanders everything we have spent admiring and idoling on this page. I truly pity you, who instead of using your time to find something that you enjoy, waste your time badmouthing something that you despise. Wouldn't it make more sense to forget about that which you detest, than to try and gather people, who also are incapable of allowing themselves happiness, to constantly remind yourself of that which you passionately hate. A word of wisdom, if I may: It's better to like with a mild-interest, than to hate with a passion."

Ocean Elf: The problem with that statement is that fandoms turn what started out as a mild interest into all out aversion by being so fanatical about the things they go crazy over. Factor in political agendas, forgettable and lame characters, and Harry being a big Stu. Well, like it or not, every force has an equal and opposite force, so if you want to obsess over HP and be so fanatical about it, it is going to create a backlash. You have a right to like whatever you want. But when you get obnoxious about it, people have a right to be annoyed. We shouldn't have to suffer in silence and pretend to like something just to avoid hurting your feelings, which shouldn't even be hurt over something this small. It isn't your opposition reminding themselves of something they hate. It is you. Trolls notwithstanding, fandoms are responsible for generating backlash against whatever they are into, by plastering it everywhere. There is no avoiding Harry Potter in the civilized world. It is everywhere. One group of people who are sick of it shouldn't be expected to just sit there and pretend to be cool with it just to placate those who adore HP.

Ocean Elf: I wouldn't go so easy on a person with such a blatant show of hate for something your forum members love. Far too many people are soft on trolls.

HPH:Thanks

words from a true moderator... appreciated.

And I come in peace. I don't have magic wands that turn things into frogs, or I don't do high speed chases in the air on a silly stick I don't drink or inhale funky colored potions and get high on them - who knows what's in them...

Some people just don't like him....

I have to question the motivation of some who dislikes HP joing a HP forum. It seems to me that in his loathing he wished to sabotage the enjoyment of others. For this reason I am suspicous of "harrypotterhaters". I will not engage in one-to-one discourse, and will be watching for breaks of the forum rules. If I find enough I will present my evidence to the administration.

HPH: And the rest is here ....

Ocean Elf: Link no longer available, nor cached. Couldn't get the content. Dang!

HPH: (*)I had a good time hanging out at that forum. There are some "true" fans of the "boy" over there.

*Modified after posting " Harry Potter Hater in a Fan Forum. Part 2 " :

As a matter of latter fact, that forum site actually ticked me off. Too bad to see how Harry Potter changes the personalities of those kids.

Ocean Elf: I tried a few different options, but could not find this content. Argh!

Harry Potter Hater in a Fan Forum. Part II

Written by Administrator

My adventure at the Harry Potter Fan forum site took shorted than I anticipated. I was able to sustain my patience limits for only 29 posts in that "NO HUMOUR" zone.

Ocean Elf: Always the joke excuse, and the overkilled "D'ey gots no humah!" whinge whenever trolls don't get their way.

I don't like HP, but I have a sense of humour, so would've laughed at seeing your trolling but kicked out of there.

HPH: My satyric humor filled posts were largely misunderstod and taken seriously. That makes me wonder, if those kids really believe in high speed air chases on stupid sticks... Poor souls...

Ocean Elf: That comment would actually be hilarious where it not from someone who trolled a forum. I'm pretty sure your satire sucks. You should've been smart and put it up on your own site instead of spewing it all over a pro-HP forum. Why don't you just admit you went there to get a rise out of people?

HPH: I responded to one of the posts asking for the release date of the next movie;

Ocean Elf: And this was what you wrote...:

HPH: Did you read all the books twice? Harry Potter Fan Association does not allow anyone watch the movies if you haven't read all the 7 books at least twice.

Ocean Elf: If I was a mod or board admin, I would've kicked you out as a troll.

HPH: And here are some responses to my "SERIOUS" post...

Poster: What the heck are you talking about? There is no official fan association governing reading and watching of HP, unless you're just messing with people, in that case I don't know what to say.

... why would someone deny you access to a movie, they are getting their money and you are getting your entertainment.... what a silly thing to say :S :confused look:

HPH: OH REALLY !!!. I am sorry Mister, I was misinformed about the existance of a Harry Potter Fans Association governing the movie watchers.... I was shocked, and literally ROTFLMAO.

Ocean Elf: That was stupid.

HPH: Here is my final reply

Harry Potter Fan Association's guards will be monitoring every single one purchasing a ticket and asking random questions from any book - totally at their discretion. Any failed to answer correctly will be turned down with no reimbursement of the ticket fees they already paid.

Ocean Elf: And yet you claimed in the beginning that you hadn't gone there intending to troll the forum, but that's exactly what you did. Loser. That's no way to oppose something.

HPH: All that said, obviously my time was up in that forum site. I said my farewell and left. I am certain that I will not be missed there.

Ocean Elf: I wouldn't miss you either. But even though your site and that forum are no longer up, I've got this much of what went on, here as a show of how not to oppose fandoms.

HPH: I should find myself another Fan site with more understanding members.

Ocean Elf: What is anyone to think but that you were trolling? Trolls don't need understanding. They need a thrashing.

If you got on a forum to post this kind of stupid crap, you knew you had outstayed your welcome. But you vamoosed out of there just so the mods wouldn't get a chance to kick you out first.

And you can't mangle anything worth a darn. Example below.

HP Comparison Such an Insult to Jack Bauer

Written by Administrator of HPH

A fearless author Adam Hoff tries to compare Jack Bauer of 24 and Harry Potter. This is an outrageous insult to Jack Bauer, unbelivable.

Mr. Hoff states in this blog "However, one of the good things to come out of my daily ponderings of 24 is that I've stumbled on a striking similarity between Jack Bauer, CTU Agent extraordinaire, and Harry Potter, boy wizard. This may seem like an odd pairing, but just check out the evidence."

Here are the striking similarities between a world class hero and that stupid boy. How dare one can mention the two in the same article :)

The items below are extracted from http://blogcritics.org/archives/2006/03/21/070938.php . Please visit the link for the details.

1. Both Jack and Harry are impervious to fear.

2. Signature skills. Both Jack and Harry have a plethora of heightened skills that enable them to save the day when everyone else fails.

3. They each have overlooked skills.

4. Both are heroes born out of tragedy.

5. Both consistently get blamed, underappreciated, and doubted far more than should be even remotely possible.

6. Neither have any respect for protocol.

7. They both have significant physical scars.

8. Both are willing to die for others.

HPH: Shame shame shame....

If I were Adam Hoff, I'd be living my the rest of my life looking over my shoulder. That's Jack you're messing with Mister :)

Ocean Elf: And that's all you got to say in response?

I was expecting a good mangling of Mr. Hoff's points, one by one, and all you could do was "Shame shame" and a vailed threat? What a wuss.
