This is not even the writer's opinion necessarily, somebody paid them to write it.
Otaku were naturally upset by it, and responded as they typically do, by throwing tantrums and insults.

Article: - Anime sucks and it has nothing to do with the animation ideas of Japan.
American teens and young adults specifically are obsessed with anime because you can do things in those cartoons that are rarely accomplished in reality. The girls look like the girls are forever 12, with huge eyes, massive chests, waists the size of a normal person's wrist and abnormally colored hair. While the guys either have tentacles, or resemble little boys; forever on a quest for something and practicing their karate on overly-NOT humorous "masters" who spout bullcrap about their supposed mission.
Ocean Elf: Since I don't watch the stuff, I didn't know tentacles were gender-specific. But that it's a boy thing, apparently, Slender Man fits the bill.
Article: It's a realm of fantasy that the world can do without. Not to mention the amount of porn that revolves around the creation of Anime. I've spoken to real women who are sick of their boyfriends drooling over easily drawn cartoon images instead of preferring the real deal. Anime porn is designed for grown men to get off on the sexual innuendo portrayed by these underage-looking cartoons. Can you say pedophiles in the making?
Ocean Elf: Don't forget the drooling swooning fangirls over the anime pretty boys. They're always writing stupid marriage fanfics or other Sue stuff, shipping characters, and even fighting for the affections of their character crushes, which they can never really get from a nonexistent person.
Article: Not only this but it has been scientifically proven that kids or young teens that indulge in anime, have lower IQ scores because they're constantly living in a world that doesn't exist;

This is an opinion. I watch anime and I get top grades in school, so don't tell me that watching anime makes you stupid. If you don't like anime, don't watch it, but don't ruin it for everyone else. I myself dislike some anime, but I never go ruin them for other people.

I know this isn't going to do any good and blah blah blah, but I think anime is a great hobby. I love anime and I have the top grades in school and a higher IQ than the average grade I'm in. If you don't like, don't watch, if you do, then watch. It's simple as that. Now, don't go hating on me just because of what I said. And the ones that men masturbate to are either ecchi (slightly perverted) or hentai (porn). So not all anime is like that.

That's why everybody knows about Super Man, Spider Man and Wonder Woman, but only the otaku know and care about Madoka Magica, Lucky Star, and the like. Only Pokemon is in the same league with our western classics because it's for all ages and has a bunch of cute and interesting creatures. Dragon Ball Z being probably the next most well known and liked.
Yes, there is a lot of different addictions, and crap out there. But that doesn't make otaku any less addicted and fanatical, or their crud any less cruddy. Don't try the deflection trick. It doesn't work on me.

But now that you've cleared it up, your problem is with all addictions. So if anime didn't have addicts you wouldn't have a problem with it?
Ocean Elf: Not quite. There is addiction that's easy to understand, a drug literally alters your brain and body chemistry and makes you behave a certain way, in some cases, becoming addicted. With gambling, the addiction stems from two other things, greed, and or desperation. With gaming, it's probably partly due to interaction with the game and the artificial high produced by a win. I don't know. Maybe just the person living exciting adventures vicariously through game characters. I'm not sure. But anime? There is no reason or excuse to be addicted to a cartoon. Even back in the day when my mom and niece were self-confessed addicts to a soap opera, they sure didn't act like childish fanatics the way otaku do over their silly anime. Lots of addicts don't treat their addiction like a cult and get all offended when somebody else says they don't like it. And that's the difference here. There's real addiction, and then there's manufactured addiction plus fanaticism. Otaku are the latter.

If your going to write a complaint, don't back it up with a blatant lie. I've never heard of or viewed a study that indicated lower IQ's or mild retardation among people that watch anime. I even went out of my way to look for one, and I still could not find one.
A complaint should have merit based on truth, rather than just ignorance.
I could go on and say that the person who wrote this article displays the rationality of someone who has a lower than average IQ, as they let their emotions do the writing rather than their brain. But I won't, as it will let the author take a step back and reflect on what they wrote.
