How To Learn From Our Kids

Well, Not Exactly.

🙎Meme: Subject: How To Learn From Our Kids

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Urgh, I sense another sickly sappy sweet glurge coming on.

🙎Meme: For those of us w/kids, grandkids or for anyone who loves kids.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Whether or not I have kids or what I might feel about other people's kids doesn't mean I'm going to love or even agree with anything in this meme!

🙎Meme: When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds that are going to take over my yard. My kids see flowers for Mom and blowing white fluff you can wish on.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well that's because, genius, kids generally don't take care of the lawn and their outlook is different. Grass is something to play on, not something to make the yard look nice and neat... Dandelions are a flower, yes, but they are weeds, and little kids generally don't understand why they are not as good as the flowers you plant and tend.

🙎Meme: When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away. My kids see someone smiling at them and they smile back.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Okay, you are getting on my nerves! Of course your kids may smile back at him - unless they get too close and find he smells bad. Then they'd likely recoil and tell the drunk he stinks. Kids are just that - kids, and they simply: (read the next few words carefully)

DO NOT KNOW BETTER!

So what, you want me to smile at just anyone no matter how disgusting they are (of their own choice I might add) and if it's a guy, and considering I'm a girl, just why would he be smiling at me, especially when he's been drinking too much? There are things kids just don't get, don't worry about, shouldn't be exposed to, because they are kids. Let them be kids, let me be an adult, let yourself be an adult and stop comparing adult thought processes with that of kids in a way that makes you put some of the adult concerns down as meaningless.

🙎Meme: When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't have much rhythm so I sit self consciously and listen. My kids feel the beat and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don't know them, they make up their own.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Of course they do, it's part of being kids. They'll grow out of it and act just like you when they get older. So stow it. I was one of those kids who went about singing, making up little tunes etc, tunes I wouldn't play in private let alone for anyone now. I have good rhythm and can sing on key for the most part.., but just don't act as I did as a child.

🙎Meme: When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk. My kids close their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground laughing.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Of course they do, they are kids. They won't do that when they grow up. By then, they will have had several real falls that won't be quite so much fun. Anyway, so the wind messes up your hair. Too bad so sad, you can fix it when you get back inside...

🙎Meme: When I pray I say thee and thou and grant me this, give me that. My kids say, "Hi God!!! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I would miss my Mommy and Daddy."

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: ARGH! Don't bring God into this meme! So you pray pretentiously? Maybe you should skip praying until you can do it sincerely. And by the way, my own prayers are more like those of your kids. So, there…!

🙎Meme: When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes and clothes and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to cross and worms to play with.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: ACKH! Okay, I get it, you're a terrible ungrateful person who like TOTALLY sweats all the small stuff, you think your kids are little angels who could teach you the basics of life all over again. Please, stow it!

From day1, I was always careful about keeping myself from getting messy. I didn't sit in the mud. I rarely even spilled food or drinks when I was small, and on my 2nd birthday, my family actually took a picture of me with a messy face from eating cake, because it was such a rarity that I got anything on myself. I also managed to play with mud without getting dirty. A sand pale and play shovel, mud, stir it around in the bucket and pretend to make something, is just as much fun as what your kids do, I'm sure. Oh, and I always have and always will play with worms when I catch them...

🙎Meme: I wonder if we are given kids to teach, or to learn from?

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Since when is teaching and learning mutually exclusive? Kids learn, adults learn, kids teach, adults teach, and the world keeps going around.

Now if only people would learn not to pass on memes.

Over and out!
