Jeff the Killer possibly plagiarized from Johnny the Homicidal Maniac? Or is just a coincidence?

Babywolfman

**Yes, this is--gasp!--LONG. So buckle up and shut up or just don't read anything but Part 3 of this post**

So, some background info:

-Jeff the Killer is the world's most retarded creepypasta, hands down, written sometime in the past six years (???) and has since had a following of partially sane, partially deadly rabid fans. And is no longer on this wiki (thank Chin Chin for that)

-Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is a darkly funny/surreal/what the flare comic by Jhonen Vasquez serialized from 1995 to 1997 and published by Slave Labor Comics or some crap.

Some people have probably already thought this, but I have some reason to hypothesize that Jeff the Killer's creator plagiarized JtHM. Even if this isn't actually plagiarism, it's not a leap of faith to name Jeff the Killer as a 12 year old's knock-off of the lesser-known comic by the creator of Invader Zim.

First off, I will openly admit that this is biased. I mean, Jeff the Killer came like a decade after Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, and the events portrayed in Jeff the Killer are too far-fetched to have possibly happened in real life (like a bunch of pampered suburban kids bringing out knives and guns at the drop of a hat, or having all your skin turn white from that amount of bleach, or being burned and not having burn scars covering yourself, or surviving without eyelids, or--and yes this is being nitpicky--cutting your face up to fit the cliché of "forever smiling" and not getting infected from not bandaging the wounds up properly, or two parents that couldn't fight off their insane hellspawn son). And the fangirls that cry out "jeffy-senpaiiii is my husband he is so KAWAAAAIIIIIIIIIIII~" and the fanboys screeching "oh jeff the killer is so cool, like he is more badass than hitler or someflare" just add to the internet retardation (that's a Filthy Frank reference) that surrounds such an illogical joke of a pasta. And apparently Jeff isn't dead from not being able to blink or sleep because Slenderman made him immortal???? Don't remember that in the bullcrap origin story. Yes, you may argue that it's just entertainment--but this doesn't focus on JtK's overall stupidity and the followers that basically praise and worship Jeff.

Ocean Elf: Slender Man would've had his eye on Jeff, teleporting him around through time/places/etc, hoping to make a proxy out of him. That is a good enough explanation for why there are so many Jeff story re-writes and fan fictions that set him permanently at age 12 or 13, when the creep was spawned in 2006, to come on the Youtube scene in 2008, then his notorious and wildly popular pasta in 2011.

Babywolfman: 1. The Title

This one is obvious. Johnny the Homicidal Maniac? Jeff the Killer? If no one spots the similarities in the title, I shake my head at you. Both names start with a "J", and the title both names the characters to be those leaning towards murder as a passtime. Nitpicky? Maybe. After all, there are countless books that have similar titles, but they surely don't have similar content, right? (Some books do have similar titles and similar content..but that's beside the point...)

2. The Content

The stories both center around a young man that kills people. In Jeff the Killer, a kid around 11 - 13 moves to a new posh suburb with his family and he and his brother Liu/Lui are promptly bullied by the neighborhood rogues (like three kids or some flare and one's a fat ass). The bullies are shockingly around the same age as Jeff and they bring out knives and crap whilst bullying. There were three bullying episodes, and on the second Jeff "snapped", and beat up the kids. Liu/Lui takes the fall for it, and the day after, instead of mourning Liu/Lui being moved to a juvie center, the parents decide to be good neighborly people and go to a random little kid's party. Jeff dons the infamous white hoodie/black pants combo and they go. Lo and behold, the bullies are there and the third episode of bullying as the "showdown" features Jeff being dumped on the head with vodka/some other alcoholic drink and then being doused in bleach, and then being set on fire. But it's okay, because Jeff punched the fat bully in the chest and stopped his heart. They bring out guns and I'm pretty sure the bullies all die. I can't remember bullcrap too well though...and Jeff wakes up in the hospital. Surprisingly, he still has hair, and his whole body has been "bleached" white. Oh, and his hair changed colors too while he was asleep. Instead of being brown, it is now permanently black. Somehow Jeff's clothes have not been touched by the fire and are 100% intact. He is somehow allowed to return home and then he promptly becomes psycho and burns off his eyelids (and somehow can still see) and cuts open his mouth and face (and somehow is not bleeding as much as he should). He kills his family and then runs off into the woods with a not-so-effective kitchen knife, wearing aforementioned white hoodie/black pants combo. Now he kills people and crap and as punishment is doomed to be drawn as a kawaii porno anime boi/misunderstood teenager (that's not in the story, that's me being an arsehole).

Ocean Elf: You got most of it right, but it wasn't the big kid Jeff socked in the heart, it was the leader of that bully pack, Randy. The kid with the witch's broom, - I mean, flying skateboard. As far as I can remember, Randy was the only kid Jeff killed. the story doesn't say what happened to the others.

Babywolfman: Johnny the Homicidal Maniac features around a young man and his rapidly deteriorating mind and his habit of killing people that annoy him and not getting caught somehow. Along with being a, forgive the pun, homicidal maniac, he also faces angst and suicide and in the first issue the only reason he didn't commit suicide is because he and his imaginary voices (in the form of a rabbit nailed to the wall--"NailBunny"--and a stuffed bear or something like that, I forgot) noticed a diarrhoea comercial comes on. He also befriends "Squee", a young child armed with a teddy bear named "Shmee" that is unloved by his parents and is visited by Johnny, aka "Nny" for short. I haven't read the whole series but he kills people and probably commits suicide somewhere in there.

Ocean Elf: Sounds incredibly dumb.

Babywolfman: So, you see the parallels, undoubtedly: both characters kill people, both are relatively batcrap crazy, and both get worse as their stories continue. There are some differences, like Johnny being older, and Jeff the Killer being more of an origin story. But the very appearances of the characters is similar--pale and with black hair, crazed eyes, etc. Now, while it's arguable whether or not Jeff the Killer's creator really plagiarized Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, as stated before, Jeff still comes off looking like a knock-off of Johnny, and JtHM came first.

Ocean Elf: This black hair and crazy eyes thing is a very overused trope. So is everything else about both comic and the notorious creepy pasta.

Babywolfman: 3. In Total...

The characters look similar, the stories both center on two young men that kill people, face similar struggles of going insane, and both characters have similar names. The titles of both sound similar, and basically state the same thing: (this character) is crazy/kills people.

So maybe this seems too wild of an idea, and I don't fully believe this is an out-and-out plagiarism, but both Jeff the Killer and Johnny the Homicidal Maniac are too similar. It could be an honest coincidence, but it just seems too weird to not discuss. I'm not one of those people that screams "9/11 WAS A LIEEEEE!!!!" or "JEWS HOAXED THE HOLOCAUST!!!" because the Holocaust is irrefutable and 9/11 most definitely happened, and this isn't meant to be a conspiracy theory, but it just is, like I said, something worth discussing. If anyone has any evidence to prove/disprove possible plagiarism or innocent copying, feel free to reply, because I've been wanting to talk about this, but not a lot of my friends read creepypastas, and the ones that do don't know what JtHM is (//hipster tears//) or are too much in love with Jeff the Killer to even entertain the notion that he may be a copy.

Ocean elf: What I don't understand is why JTHM faded into near obscurity, but the equally lame JTK got so popular. But angsty and strange-looking evil-doers are a trope that's been with us a long time.

Jeff the Killer also has his own wikia and other stupid knock-offs. If this is true then Homicidal Liu and Jane the Killer are knock-offs of a knock-off.

Edited by Hellhound iscariot666 09:24, July 26, 2015

Ocean Elf: Definitely. Lol!

But Liu does help Jeff to hide evidence and hide from the police, according to Sesseur, who created these characters and did not write the infamous bully-ridden pasta.

Babywolfman

Babywolfman

That's true then, yeah. I don't even know how Jeff the Killer got so popular, because the original story sucked.

I wouldn't say that he's a knock off so much as a cliché of every murderer story ever told. Boy grows up. Boy gets bullied. Boy kills people. So... it's not really just one copy, is it? Someone is just out there rewriting the same story over and over, and Jeff just happened to get big.

Also, Jeff isn't exactly crazy. He just seems like someone who wants to kill people; Crazy people have a mental reason of some sort, granted it may be because the flaring Chicken told them to.

Also, celebrating; First time I've seen Invader Zim mentioned on here! gg to all the other fans of the only cartoon I can honestly enjoy that isn't made by Fox!

Good game all, we can die happy now.

Edited: Holy he||. I posted this one and the time posted said "A minute from now".

I had a similar plot to 'Jeff the Killer.' The story was called 'Popular,' it pretty much revolved around a girl named Jordan Gray that wanted to kill these two girls: Mally Koward and Kayla Reed. These two girls were the most popular at her school and the reason why Jordan wanted them dead was due to the fact that she saw a video on some website they ran. The content of the video had a friend of hers being killed one of the girls while the other one filmed, one of them later threatened Jordan that this wasn't a fake (I don't know if I included that or not).

Jordan went over to one of the girls' houses to kill them as revenge for her friend's death being exploited. She texted the whole thing on her cell phone, including the time she was getting riddled with bullets by one of the girls' fathers, the father was the chief of police.

The story ended with Jordan's little sister, Octavia claiming to be the mastermind for the whole thing, somehow. She had Mally and Kayla burn down her mobile home.

Yeah, my story sucks. I need to do some serious revision.

Ocean Elf: *Open mouth* Wow. IMO, great twist at the end of that.

Sorry Iscariot, but right here and now, I promise you, I will never read that. 5 parts because you just explained the whole plot and I don't need to read it now, and 5 parts because, yes, it's Jeff the Killer but as a girl. With a wench of a little sister. Yeah...

18:11, July 30, 2015

Ocean elf: That doesn't sound like Jeff The Killer to me.

Hellhound iscariot666

Well, Jordan wanted revenge for her friend's death and she actually died when she got shot 'repeatedly.' She didn't have her skin bleached white, carve a smile into her face and I also wrote a sequel to it.

I might want to work on that story some time, anything can resemble 'Jeff the Killer' or 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac,' well it seems like that's the case.

Anyways, 'Johnny the Homicidal Maniac' might one day beat 'Jeff the Killer' in terms of writing.

I see the similarities of the both of them. I mean JtHM could be a possible influence of Jeff the Killer. I talked to the creator of Jeff the Killer, and he mentioned nothing about JtHm, though he didn't write the actual 2011 pasta we all know.

That just makes me wonder if the creator ever gets on here, and is instantly depressed by the fact that his whole following is 12 and under. And parents trying to remain relevant in their children's lives. Poor basilisk.

Oh, I didn't know. JtHM is probably an influence then, yeah. But who wrote it?

Oh and I'll reply to this too, Jeff is crazy, sane people don't feel a need to kill others. Would you call Jeffery Dahmer sane? Or what about Dylann Roof or Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold? People murder others typically from mental imbalance. Psychopaths may not need a reason to kill people, but then again the pasta wasn't exactly stellar as I already mentioned.

Edited by Babywolfman 17:04, July 31, 2015

Ocean Elf: And crazy/insane is no excuse, either. I'm quite sick of people using that as some kind of excuse. Sadism is simply sick, twisted, evil.

And I'll reply to this too lol. The story is somewhere to start, and it's a better start than Jeff the Killer. But try to edit it a bit more, the thing about the little sister doing it all seems too "wtf". And were there motives for the two popular girls to kill the friend?

16:49, July 31, 2015

Ocean elf: The first motive I usually think of when it comes to girls who want to be popular/are in cliques etc. is jealousy/envy, and that could work for the little sister as well. One heck of a demon child.

AMarbleHornet

AMarbleHornet

reply to #13

Well, that's not true. Otherwise every, oh, let's say robbery gone wrong, for every war declared, some insane mastermind planned it all. Or there's the alternative of saying that everyone is simply born insane. Life goes on.

reply to #15

I meant murder as in outside of war and accidents, sorry I didn't clarify. But in the original pasta itself (I had to read it before) it says that Jeff feels a liking for violence, and while sadism isn't exactly insane, he was played into the role of being insane.

21:37, August 1, 2015

Ocean elf: Exactly. The insane excuse... A cop-out. Jeff is just evil.

And that's another one done.
