🤥Meme: When I was about 9 years old, I went to a friend's for a birthday/slumber party. There were about 10 other girls there. About midnight, we decided to play Mary Worth. Some of us had never heard of this so one of the girls told the story.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Mary Worth is a character from a comic strip.

🤥Meme: Mary Worth lived a long time ago. She was a very beautiful young girl. One day she had a terrible accident that left her face so disfigured that nobody would look at her.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Gah, what compassionate humanitarians they all were. *Scowl* Come on. Nobody deserves that however they look.

🤥Meme: She had not been allowed to see her own reflection after this accident for fear that she would lose her mind.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well, that's more understandable except for the exaggeration. It would be traumatizing to look at oneself after a disfiguring accident, but it doesn't make one go crazy. To keep the patient from stressing out further and possibly harming themselves, it makes sense why the doctors would be hesitant to let her look too soon, when she needs to expend her energy and time on healing.

🤥Meme: Before this, she had spent long hours admiring her beauty in her bedroom mirror.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Heh. lots of girls do that. I'm not among them, but let's just say I know of some who have.

🤥Meme: One night, after everyone had gone to bed, unable to fight the curiosity any longer, she crept into a room that had a mirror. As soon as she saw her face, she broke down into terrible screams and sobs.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: As expected. I've seen shows where this very scene played out, though not sneakily. It's always a patient demanding incessantly to see themselves, and finally when they give in, he or she gets a look at themselves and breaks down. It isn't pleasant. But it's understandable.

🤥Meme: It was at this moment that she was so heartbroken and wanted her old reflection back, that she walked into the mirror to find it, vowing to disfigure anybody that came looking for her in the mirror.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: The only thing that would accomplish is breaking the mirror and injuring herself further.

🤥Meme: After hearing this story, which was told very scarily,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Which is why I'm not scared.

🤥Meme: we decided to turn out all of the lights and try it.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: You do realize nothing would happen, right?

🤥Meme: We all huddled around the mirror and starting repeating "Mary Worth, Mary Worth, I believe in Mary Worth."

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Silly girls, placing your belief in something that isn't there.

🤥Meme: About the seventh time we said it one of the girls that was in front of the mirror started screaming and trying to push her way back away from the mirror.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Right, probably the instigator of the whole thing. She's faking a fright to get you all going.

🤥Meme: She was screaming so loud that my friends mom came running into the room.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: That's not hard to do, slumber parties have this way of getting loud, even when it's just laughter. So yeah, a scream would surely get any parent's attention.

🤥Meme: She quickly turned on the lights and found this girl huddled in the corner screaming.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Sheesh, the kid just doesn't know when enough is enough already.

🤥Meme: She turned her around to see what the problem and saw these long fingernail scratches running down her right cheek.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Wow, that kid has serious attention-seeking issues. So much that she scratched herself just to pull off a hoax.

🤥Meme: I will never forget her face as long as I live!!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: You should be afraid of the girl herself, not of the nonexistent Mary Worth. Anybody who would go to this extreme for a bit of attention or to get people believing in some fantom is disturbed. And yes, there are sick people in real life who have done a lot worse to themselves and others than a few scratches just to get people where they want them. These are the sorts who pull off insurance fraud and hate crime hoaxes.
