The story was true, though never should've gone viral. Other arrangements were made, and the boy did have a happy birthday in the end, and was over the initial disappointment before the start-over party was over.
There was discussion on FB about the incident, and then a troll by the name of Adrian Tuck derailed the thread, causing the comments to be closed on the post.

Rebecca - aged 36, died last week leaving a 15 year old son and an 8 year old daughter ..
She loved retro fashion and was well known locally for her red hair and red lipstick.
She ran with our local athletics club who, since she died have all competed wearing either red lipstick or red kisses on their cheeks ..
Her funeral is tomorrow.
On Friday I’ll put my own picture back up ...
