'We need a Disney princess' meme quickly derails from genuine to bizarre

BY MORGAN SUNG

🧝‍♀️ This reminds me of the MLP meme, only that one went from bizarre 4chan joke to having a dead serious fandom.

👤MORGAN SUNG: Say it with me: we need a Disney princess who isn't perfect.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Ugh! Not this again!

We don't need a Disney princess to suit any more political agendas. A Disney princess who hates memes would be very cool. One who detests political correctness and identity politics, without being a jerk face about it would be even better.

👤MORGAN SUNG: The Disney princess franchise has made an effort to move away from traditional heroines who need to be saved by a dashing prince.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Which never constituted perfection in the first place. But guess what? Neither does the direction in which they are headed. It stinks! They're not being more creative and equal. They are pandering to social justice warriors and their rotten ideologies.

👤MORGAN SUNG: In fact, newer princesses like Moana and Merida don't have love interests at all.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Which is just fine as far as I'm concerned.

👤MORGAN SUNG: But some people think Disney could do more to make princesses with flaws,

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Because some people are never satisfied, and, they've pretty much forgotten what it means to be royalty. We know royals have serious flaws. And I'm talking character flaws, not appearance. But they have always tried to conduct themselves in public to appear not to have them, on the surface. In ancient times, a king might've appeared friendly toward you in public, but as soon as you and he were out of the public eye, he could have you executed for something.

👤MORGAN SUNG: whether it's an unconventional body or just being an arsehole.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: *Sigh* Here we go again. Oh people please! Give it a rest! If you don't like Disney princesses, why not just go watch something else?

The thing is, if Disney did exactly what these cry-bullies keep demanding, story after story about "Wahh, I gots a funny body, but look what I CAN DO! See? I'm a Disney PRINCESS!" would be the order of the day, with the plot centering around the "unconventional body" rather than good character and a good story.

As for a princess being an arsehole, sure that would work, but she shouldn't be a protagonist of a story. She should be a villain. I don't throw my support behind arseholes in real life, never have in stories/movies, and am not about to start now. And don't even get me going on these arseholes with sad backstories. I'm sick of "Oh, she's a mean girl, but she was bullied/abused, so we should really feel sorry for her." No! I'm so done with that!

Oh, and the mean character who suddenly turns nice at the end? That's overdone as well.

👤MORGAN SUNG: The current meme-able format appears to have started in September, when comedian Sofie Hagen put out a call for a fat princess.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: 🙄 Yet the food-cop movement/agenda is also on the left of the aisle.

This is all politically correct garbage that never should've gone near Disney. Sheesh people, is nothing sacred?

Why not have enough creativity to simply make characters that are not mandated to fit any certain typecasting other than designation of "princess" or whatever that character is actually supposed to be?

I'm all for princesses having varied appearances... but not because social justice warriors stick their noses even further into the entertainment industry!

👤MORGAN SUNG: She has a point — just look at Cinderella, whose waist is approximately the size of her neck.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: it's a cartoon, for goodness sake! With talking mice. It is a fairy-tale. It isn't meant to be reality!

I have a Cinderella ornament. Her waist is not as small as her neck...

How about looking at the typical anime girl? Don't talk to me until you've seen how sexualized they are...

👤MORGAN SUNG: Hagen's tweet had Twitter users feeling similarly. In the past week, her format and call for imperfect Disney princesses has been all over social media.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: The feminist sheeple have stampeded yet again!

👤MORGAN SUNG: But it quickly took a bizarre turn, as the internet tends to do.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Let me guess. 4chan got wind of it and all heck broke loose.

👤MORGAN SUNG: Like, really questionable requests.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Oh, no. That could mean just one thing. Get ready to cringe, hard!

👤MORGAN SUNG: Twitter users also called for Disney princesses who are the absolute worst people in society. Including SoundCloud rappers.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Well, what do you expect when people are calling for arsehole princesses?

👤MORGAN SUNG: Gross.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: And stupid. Maybe it's just time for Disney to hang it up, since people don't want any more characters that could actually be identified as princesses.

👤MORGAN SUNG: We need a Disney princess who'll get these song references.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Princesses, like anyone else, can like whatever music they please. But does that really have to be such an important plot device? Songfics are cringy as it is.

👤MORGAN SUNG: Or a Disney princess who'll remember these movies.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Same as above. Gah, this is stupid.

👤MORGAN SUNG: Or one who's seen all of these commercials on local TV.

🧝‍♀️Ocean: Oh, for the love! Just stop!

Over and out!
