Life Back In The Olden So Much Better Days We Are amazing To Have Survived

Would you believe yet another mutation of this viral has come out, storming the internet. It even made The Guardian and Observer back in early 2012. On June 10, 2013, someone made a video of a mutation that got shared on San Francisco times, on March 16, 2014, and that post got shared on Facebook!

Aaaaaaaaagh!

Here is a mangling via Youtube.

Other bloggers are chiming in to give their point of view on this snivelling meme.

That means more mangling. "Meme1:" will precede the wording of the older version, "Meme2:" the newer one and so on. "Memes:" will indicate the wording is exactly the same in places among all mutations.

--

🙎Meme1: WE ARE AWESOME !!!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Not when you either start or replicate forwards as if you think they're actually something cool.

🙎Meme1: OUR Lives are LIVING PROOF !!!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah, yeah, we're so awesome because we are living proof, that we are living, we are totally awesome for being us, well, but you know what? Everything that has life is living proof of awesome life if you want to get really technical about it. That means anyone who has ever lived, has been awesome because they have been living proof at some point in human history. And every creature is awesome too because they are living proof also. Yeah, mosquitoes are awesome, right?

Yeah, you have to do more than just be living proof that you are alive to be awesome.

🙎Meme1: To Those of Us Born 1925 - 1970 :

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, no, it's yet another forward designed to get anyone over 30 right in the heart so they'll do the most stereotypical thing on the net people who are past their youth are sadly notorious for - spreading forwards!

🙎Meme1: At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah right, no, this is phoney. Jay Leno didn't say it. Chain letters are always claiming some famous person said something they didn't.

As for this "quote of the month" considering this chain and phoney Leno quote has been going around for ages, it must've been a very very long month!

🙎Meme1: If you don't read anything else, please read what he said. Very well stated,Mr. Leno. ~~~~~~~~~

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Actually, no. Jay Leno didn't say it. Jay Leno … Did … NOT … say … it … !

🙎Meme1: TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

🙎‍♂️Meme2:CONGRATULATIONS to all my friends who were born in the 1940s, 50s and 60s.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, for the love...! It's that whinging, over-idealizing of childhood way back when, yet again. This chain letter has been going around for ages, probably since the 80s, via fax or magazine reprints, and chain snailmail, and then the 90s when the internet started becoming popular.

Well it's high time to zap this meme!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: First, we survived being born to mothers who

🙎Meme1: may have

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: smoked and/or drank

🙎‍♂️Meme2: sherry

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: while they

🙎Meme1:were pregnant.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: while they carried us and lived in houses made of Asbestos.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, please! I don't suppose you've heard of fetal alcohol syndrome? That is precisely why pregnant women don't smoke and drink any more, we've learned better and gotten slarter and know not to booze up like mad when there's a growing human embryo inside that eventually develops and turns into a healthy baby, God willing. Not hitting the sauce while preggers, well, that's just called doing your best to give the best chance to a future kid on the way! And maybe things were different for you in Chainland back in the 60s, but we never lived in an asbestus house. Our house from back then is still very much standing and is not in violation of any sort of safety laws, and is made of - you know, construction type stuff, like - wood, brick, stone, glass, shingles on the roof, a normal kind of house…

Okay so not everybody was damaged by smoking drinking moms carrying them. That doesn't mean it was a good idea to do it, you know…

So, would you rather pregnant woman started chain-smoking and binge drinking or something to bring back some of the good old bad old days to their future children?

No?

Then don't go all melty over things that were stupid to begin with. Not everything was good about the good ol' days.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: They took aspirin,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: People still take aspirin today. DUH!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: ate blue cheese

🙎Meme1: dressing,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yuck - But people still eat blue cheese in or out of dressing today too. You can have it, I don't want it. I hate salad dressing of all kinds and I hate blue cheese, so go ahead and pig out on the stuff until you look and stink of it, but keep it and yourself away from me.

🙎Meme1: tuna from a can,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Hel-lo!? Have you not been in a grocery store lately!? They still sell tuna in a can, and yes, I still eat it! Oh, and there's still running water in this day and age, which, I drink from the kitchen tap or pitcher in the fridge, too.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: bread and dripping,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: HEL-LO! Still do, and if you want to, go ahead, okay? Nobody's stopping you!

🙎‍♂️Meme2: raw egg products,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So what? You still can, so stop whining…

🙎‍♂️Meme2: loads of bacon

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Duh, you still can!

🙎‍♂️Meme2: and processed meat

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So freaking' what? Look, a lot of sandwich meats have actually been improved over the years and taste better now than they did back then, so shut it already!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: and didn't get tested for diabetes.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: or cervical cancer.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: *Bangs on chain-originator's head* Hel-lo!? HEL-LOOOOO!? Is there anybody in there!?

Guess what? People don't generally get tested for diabetes or cervical cancer unless they - get this - SHOW SOME SYMToMS! Do you also hanker for the days when surgeries were far more risky and they left much more scarring and were a lot more painful than now?

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: Then, after that trauma,

🙎Meme1: We were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: our cots were covered with lead-based paints.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: What trauma? I didn't eat blue cheese dressing and tuna and bread with drippings and raw egg products and loads of bacon and processed meats and get tested for diabetes and cervical cancer before I was born - oh, wait, you were still going on and on about how easy breezy you think pregnant ladies had it way back when - well, you're wrong. Anyway, blame the bacanophobia and anti-eggs and meat and cheese and tuna thing on the food-cop propaganda, which is as wrong as this chain letter, and two wrongs don't make a right.

Now, back to - where were we? Oh yes, lying in lead paint cribs... Were we? I don't remember my infancy, and back then I wouldn't have given a single flying hot darn what I slept in as long as it was comfortable. Are you saying babies are not comfortable in their cradles today? that somehow the bright lead paint was such a good and essential thing, absolutely vital for an infant to survive into the rest of childhood and adult life? No? Then shut up.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles or locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode

🙎Meme1: our

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: bikes we had

🙎Meme1: baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: no helmets or shoes, not to mention the risks we took hitchhiking.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, the Ecstasy of it all! No childproof locks! No helmets! Please, if that's the best you can do for why the bad old days were so good, give it up. By the way, I never played baseball. So they hadn't come up with all the safety gear back then, well, it's called progress. Live with it. As for hitchhiking, it should be clear why that is dangerous...

🙎Meme1: As infants & children,

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: we would ride in cars with no

🙎Meme1: car seats, no booster seats,

🙎‍♂️Meme2: no seat belts, or

🙎Meme1: no

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: air bags,

🙎Meme1: bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So? And now that you have to wear and put your kid into all of that, life just isn't worth living, give me a break!

🙎Meme1: Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah, but things change. Find something else to make you happy. Maybe one day you'll get your precious lead and non-kidproof bottles and non-air-bagged cars back, in the mean time, stop churning out this whiny dud of a chain letter. There are plenty of things wrong with the good old bad old days too.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So what's stopping you from doing it now? Last I checked, no one passed a law making it illegal to drink from a hose. Go ahead if that's what you yearn for. I'll stick to getting my ice cold water from a pitcher in the fridge, thanks.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Takeaway food was limited to fish and chips, there were no pizza shops, or McDonald's, KFC, Subway or Nando's.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Maybe where you lived, where I was, we had all these shops. I even remember take-out pizza from when I was a kid. Back then, I couldn't stand the smell of it. Now, I love it as a good winter food. Anyway, the point is, you'd rather go back to having only one take-out place? Even if fish and chips are good, and they are, really? What's so bad about having a variety of things?

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Even though all the shops closed at 6pm and didn't open on a Sunday, somehow we didn't starve to death!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: ARGH! Don't even go there! You are trying to appeal to those Christians who might still have a conniption today about eateries being open on Sundays, and you are trying to manipulate them by their sense of religion into passing on this chain letter! You are seriously ticking me off!

and of course you didn't starve because 1. It takes longer than a day to starve. 2. You didn't live entirely on take-out, or, excuse me, 'take away' as you call it.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Right - eww, ugh - I never did that. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they still do that at drunken parties, only it's booze and not soda pop. So? If that's your thing, call over a few friends and do a communal drink thing, I'm sure no one is going to beat down your door and stop you.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and buy toffees, gobstoppers and bubble gum.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Aaaaagggghhhh! Look, you can still get toffees and gobstoppers and bubble gum today, so I don't understand why you think it was so incredibly special or tasted so much better when bought with cashed-in bottle money at the corner store. Really, get a life! And there are places you can go drop bottles off for cash, so do that. They won't give you bubble gum and gobstoppers and toffees, but like I said - ah, what the heck, skip it!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We ate

🙎Meme1: cupcakes made with Lard,

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: white bread and real butter

🙎Meme1: and bacon.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So? None of that is illegal, you still can. Make your own if you have to... And BTW, yes, I still consume all of that minus the lard, I don't like the taste of lard. I don't go in for that artificially sweetened, diet crap either, but I'll have more of an effect on any of those choices by making those choices, not by passing on whimpering chain letters!

🙎Meme1: We drank FLAV-OR- AID made with real white sugar.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: drank cow's milk and soft drinks with sugar,

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So? You still can. I still do. It might be called something different now, part of this newer age is there are more variations of crystal drink mixes, and you can choose your favorites.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: And, we weren't overweight..

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda… Look, eating all that stuff won't turn you into a blimp, but everything in moderation, ya know… And yes, it should be up to the individual, not the government to dictate what we should eat, I know, I know. You're not going to stop the food-cop movement with chain letters!

🙎Meme1: WHY?

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Probably because you were younger, and not taught to be obsessed and brainwashed into thinking you had to look like an airbrushed Barbie or King David statue. Dry up.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: Because we were always outside playing....that's why!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Well, yeah, which is why I think we should ditch the boring gym and exercise equipment and have adult-sized playgrounds. But getting that done would require a lot of people, a lot of money, and the desire to get it done. And you won't get it done with chain letters!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.. No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Not everyone. Child abductions, robbery, rape etc. happened back then, too. And it was just this very idea that kids were out alone all day etc. that actually may have contributed to criminals making easy pickings of them, especially little kids. Now, we know these creeps are out there, so we don't let our kids out all day alone. That's just how it is and how it's going to be until further notice. Would you rather let your kids out during the day all alone now and have them not be okay? No? Welll, then... Criminals do spoil things for everyone, it's unfortunate, but that's just the way it is. Obviously the old system just wasn't working any more, and this chain letter is absolutely futile and useless to fix it.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We would spend hours building our go-carts out of

🙎Meme1: scraps

🙎‍♂️Meme2: old prams

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: I never did that. If I did, it's something I might laugh about, but certainly wouldn't be pining away for.

🙎‍♂️Meme2:Good old plays ... leaping for joy

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah, but, there was also a crapload of restrictions that came with it. You had to be home by dinner time, had to do your homework, do your chores, had to be in bed by a certain time, couldn't have the last word on what kind of pet was okay in your household, had to get up in the morning for school, had to be careful not to misbehave or do badly in something or you'd catch it from school and at home, couldn't just by something on a whim that you wanted because family allowance only goes so far, and parents try very hard to help you learn some monitory responsibility even then. Risk of discipline for doing something out of line because as a kid you were still a kid and didn't have the skills and finesse of being an adult...

🙎‍♂️Meme2: We built treehouses and dens and played in riverbeds with Matchbox cars.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So go ahead and play in the river and trees with your toy cars, nobody's stopping you. Build a huge honking adult-sized tree fort in your own backyard. Buy yourself some toy cars, they don't have to be specifically called "Matchbox" as long as they're decent toy cars, that should satisfy you. Sure, you might get the odd stare from people who see you playing alone with your toys in the river or up a tree in your yard, but they'll get used to it eventually and at least then you'll be doing something other than spreading this stupid chain letter!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Wii

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: and X-boxes. There were no

🙎‍♂️Meme2: mobiles,

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: video games, no 150 channels on cable,

🙎‍♂️Meme2: colour TV.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's,

🙎Meme1: no cell phones, no personal

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And tons of boredom when you had nothing to do and your friends couldn't come over to play... Look, technology is great. It teaches you things, it helps you to entertain yourself when no one else is available, it promotes independence, it enables contact, and I certainly don't long for the days before computers when if I got a snailmail letter from a longdistance friend, I had to rely on someone else to read it to me, and rely on someone else to proofread my type-written assignments at school. If I wrote letters to longdistance friends, I had to get help with proofreading and then getting it into the mail. With a computer and a program on it to make it speak, I don't have to rely on anyone else to read and write messages on my own. So this is where your pathetic whinge against technology REALLY crashes and burns!

And it's hard to understand why you don't appreciate surround sound! I love my old records, but soundwise, they're awful next to what's on my Ipod!

Chain: WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh? I wasn't aware they were lost to begin with. Look, things change, friends move away. It's sad, but it's all part of life. The best you can do is try to keep in contact with them and make new friends. Not the same, I know, but you can't turn back the clock.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: I cannot believe you actually hanker for the pain of broken bones! As for this lawsuit business, do you really think that would've mattered to you as a little kid? Get real. Anyway, climb your own tree and fall out of it and break your bones if you still want to, and no one will sue you since you did it all yourself.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We ate worms and mud pies

🙎‍♂️Meme2: too

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: made from dirt,

🙎Meme1: and the worms did not live in us forever.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yuck, speak for yourself! I never ate a worm in my life, and I had enough sense and fussy enough tastebuds that I never ate dirt either. I did mix up dirt and wet sand into mud pies, dirt cakes etc. and still would today if I had nothing else to do. So could you. I'm pretty sure no one would even stop you from eating worms if that's your thing.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Only girls had pierced ears.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: And only guys wore pants and only girls wore high heels and only guys played sports and only girls cooked and cleaned blah blah blah blah blah…. Much more of this and the next thing within my reach is gonna get more than one little piercing! Please! So a guy gets his ear pierced, you're not gonna curl up and die, you will survive, so get a life! That's his decision and his right! It's his dang ear, not yours!

🙎‍♂️Meme2: You could buy Easter eggs and hot-cross buns only at Easter time.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So cry me a freaking ocean over it! Look, the world isn't going to end just because holiday treats are available somewhere year round! Don't give me this speal about how everything's gone all commercial. I thought you wanted freedom to eat what you want, well, now when you get a hankering for a chocolate and not just any chocolate but an egg shaped one, you can special order them online - oh, right, you hate the internet… is that why you started this chain letter? Anyway… Easter stuff's pretty hard to get until after Valentine's day, normally, though 2012 was an exception around here but whatever. Are you going to snivel about halloween stuff being available year round now too?

Chain: We were given

🙎Meme1: BB guns

🙎‍♂️Meme2: airguns and catapults

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: for our 10th birthdays,

🙎Meme1: made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Didn't get a BB gun for my tenth, I think I got a plush kitten and a pair of huggable monkeys with valcro on their hands, and many other toys, some of which I held onto, others have been sold or given away. So? I'm pretty sure you can still get BB guns and tennis balls. Sticks, there's no shortage of those. Go ahead and make up a game. You'd be better off doing that than having made up this simpering chain letter.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door

🙎Meme1: or rang the bell,

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: or just walked in and talked to them.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: or just yelled for them.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Yeah well, things change, friends grow up and move, get their own busy schedules, raise families, with that comes responsibility, so it's impractical to just go over to somebody's house and invite yourself in. I was brought up with the idea that it is rude to invite yourself over, even to a friend's, so, I didn't do that. And there were times when neighborhood kids did invite themselves over to my house, even when I didn't feel like playing with them.

Popping in to visit is a custom still done in smaller towns, especially in different parts of the world. You might like living in Surbia, where this is still very much the norm, according to my sister, who went there on a vacation once, because she has a friend from there. You really should consider moving there.

🙎Meme1: Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Not everyone made the school rugby, football, cricket or netball teams.

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment.

🙎Meme1: Getting into the team was based on merit.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: As far as I know, it's the same way today. Anyway, what's wrong with putting a kid in baseballrugbyfootballcricketnetball etc. etc. etc. just for a bit to at least teach them how the game is played, and help them decide if they want to continue or not? I didn't try out for music lessons, either, you know. And yes, I have succeeded and failed, and have been triumphant and disappointed. None of these things stop after the 70s... A school team isn't something written in stone, it is not destiny. It's supposed to be about fun. The stuff about not qualifying to play, leave that to pro sports...

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: Imagine that!!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Imagine this.

Before the 60s had ended, there was segregation. Before the 20s or even the turn of the 20th century, women weren't allowed to vote. Before the Berlin Walll came down, there was apartheid, and Eastern Europe was gripped in communism. Hitler only died in 1945. Before that - starting in the early 30s, he was torturing and butchering people left, right, and center.

Before the 70s, if you were visually impaired, you were sent away from your family to go to special schools. Nowadays, technology enables anyone to go to a regular school setting, and you are not banished to a special boarding school.

Before the 90s, solving crimes was more hit or miss because there wasn't DNA evidence, or at least, not discernable to the extent it is now, so there were even more wrongful convictions than there are now.

Medical advances have made surgery a lot less painful, and people recover faster than they would have in the 1930s to 70s.

And I'm guessing that back then there was little or no protection for women and children who were abused by their spouses and parents, relatives etc.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Our teachers hit us with canes and gym shoes and threw the blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren't concentrating.

🙎Meme1: We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Again, would you have cared as a little kid? When I was little and I got spanked, the only thing that did was make me extremely angry at the spanker. Yeah, I would've been absolutely devastated if child services swooped in and tried to separate the family, but I probably wouldn't have put it together at the age of four that it was because somebody spanked me! So, spank yourself with a paddle or object of your choice and stew. I'm going to enjoy what I can out of the here-and-now.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: We can string sentences together, spell and have proper conversations now because of a solid three Rs education.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: There's more to life and school than just the ors… Like it or not, education back in the good ol' bad ol' days wasn't nearly as advanced. Then school only went up to grade 8, now it goes to 12, and all kinds of education is needed for all kinds of people. Whether or not you wish to face it, the 3Rs just isn't for everyone and neither was school discipline. Yes, today people are far too easy on brats and bullies, but back on the bad ol' days, they were far too harsh on people who were not bullies and brats, while b&bs still managed to get away with murder because they just knew how not to get caught!

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Not true… Not unless that stranger was a police officer.

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Mum didn't have to go to work to help Dad make ends meet because we didn't need to keep up with the Joneses!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Okay, you are seriously making me sick! I suppose your stupid excuse about the Jones's is actually sexism in disguise! You actually long for the days when women were barefoot, preggers and in the kitchen I suppose! Look, women work and there's NOTHING wrong with that! Get it!? The idea of women working wasn't all about keeping up with the Jones's! It was about, get this: EQUALITY! Imagine *that!*

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Don't be so sure about that...

🙎‍♂️Meme2: Parents didn't invent stupid names for kids like Kiora, Blade, Ridge and Vanilla.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: There's nothing wrong with Kiora, though I'll bet if you went to a foreign country like, Norway, Thailand, anywhere in Northeastern Europe, Asia or Africa, somebody there would think your name was stupid or at least hilarious. And whoever heard of naming a kid Vanilla? Ah, but you probably would, just to prove a point.

🙎Meme1: These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: That's the only thing you've said that is actually worth anything.

🙎Meme1: The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: So? Haven't you cried over this enough?

🙎Meme1: What can kids today do besides push buttons..

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: You're seriously asking this?

Can your kid walk? Talk? Toilet-train? Go to school? Hold a pen? Use a computer? Open the fridge or cupboard and grab a snack? Get in and out of a vehicle? Tell you the answers to questions relative to his or her education? Does your kid recognize when you are pleased with or displeased with him/her? Does s/he try to get your approval, or rebell against you? Does your kid exhibit anything in the way of a personality?

Then yes, kids today can do a lot more than just push buttons!

If you took the time to teach your own kids, instead of churning out "Mwah! I want the good old days back!" chain letters, you might be amazed at what they can all do! And as if you didn't push buttons when you were a kid, please. I'm surprised you didn't mention the novelty of touchtone phones when they first came out, and making prank calls.

Besides, I can't write with a pen because I can't actually see print! This means that before computer speech, there were typewriters and brailers, and before that, slates. There were typewriters in the 30s, and guess what people did to make them work? They pushed buttons! Okay, they are called keys, but same diff, really!

Then typewriters gave way to computers, and eventually computers started becoming more accessible, so have phones! They have screen magnifiers and in some cases, not enough yet, voiceover and speech-recognition technology, TTYs and closed-captioning for the hearing-impaired. They didn't have much or any of this stuff before the late 70s.

I've probably pushed a lot more buttons during my life than you ever will, and no, I'm not a product of the post-70s generation! If it wasn't for pushing the buttons to type out assignments, to hear and be able to type on this keyboard, I would not be able to write anything on my own! Do you really want to turn the clock back to the times when the so-called "infirmed" were only shut away, pitied, and gossipped about, rather than out living productive lives?

Think about this, and think hard! And the next time you get the urge to ramble on and on about how much better you think the good old days were, SHUT IT!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Don't kid yourself. That hasn't changed...

🙎Meme1: If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: You're congratulating me for something you and the rest of humanity has done since it all began - living? Oh, get a hobby!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh brother! Look, the system isn't perfect. Far from it, though you didn't cover much in that department. All you did was express a yearning for eating worms and falling out of trees and into bushes and breaking bones, and getting spanked. Oh, and eating cupcakes etc... Which - you can still do, by the way! But - need I point out some of the pitfalls of life before the present time for you again?

Yes, there are too many stupid restrictions, yes, there are movements of people from Jim Jones and David Koresh type religious fanatic fundies to environmentalism fundies to the food-cop fundies and the people who want to outlaw trampolines, who want to ban happiness and proclaim that Doomsday is coming and we're at fault for it and we deserve it because we brought it all on ourselves because the human race is evil and no one deserves to be happy. and yes, the media gives them way too much attention and lets them spout off their putrescent junk as if it was real information. But propaganda has always been with us, too. In the 30s, the happiness-banning cults weren't the food-cops, they were the nazis.

No, I don't want to share this chain with anyone else. You can consider it thoroughly thrashed. you won't get rid of stupid laws with chain letters!

🙎🙎‍♂️Memes: While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: No. For one thing, I don't have kids. For another, I am not so arrogant as to consider myself any braver or luckier than the next person no matter which era we grew up in.

🙎Meme1: Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Uh, NO! I was taught better than that, and why!

🙎Meme1: ~ The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: What's with these chain letters falling all over Jay Leno all of a sudden?

🙎Meme1: 'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Not again! Not this again! NOT - THIS - AGAIN!

Look, Jay Leno did NOT say it!

And this quote was put into another stupid chain letter that was written during the Bush era, so, was naturally a pro-Bush viral.

It's clear that republicans still haven't learned to kick the chain letter habit!

Plus, whatever Jay Leno originally said was, *gasp* get this people: MEANT AS A JOKE!

Nobody's going to take God out of anywhere, and nobody is going to kill your precious little Pledge of Allegiance! So shut...the...heck...UP!

🙎Meme1: For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: !!!!!!!ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

Look! God doesn't work through chain letters! Just because you delete this mewling stack of whinge, does not mean you don't believe in God! Leave God out of it! Stop exploiting God's name and people's emotions to get them passing on a chain letter that should've died ages ago!

🙎Meme1: For the rest of us...pass this on.

🧝‍♀️Ocean Elf: Oh, what, you think lightning will strike you dead if you don't pass this on? Stupid!

The best thing you can do if you think the government is getting too big is to stop spreading chain letters. Otherwise, you'll discredit yourself and everything you stand for. There isn't a quicker way to shoot a cause and belief system in the foot than with chain letters! You are just a cog in the wheel of whinge out there that the more it squeaks, the less seriously it will be taken, because it's all viral misinformation crap!

If you are sick of all the regulations, for goodness sake, write it out yourself, and cite REAL articles to back up your opinions, use your own life experiences for that matter! Do not use chain letters to protest stupid regulations, because that is a sure way to get yourself and anything you say, completely dismissed as a lie right along with the "Press alt4 and your crush will call you at midnight!" hoaxes! In addition, that will make room for "big government" as nearly every good conservative yesman calls it, to impose even more regulations while any resistance gets doubted, disbelieved, and completely dishonored when virals are used.

Besides, I can't tell you how sick I am of old people chain letter whinges! These simpering "Wah, life was soooooo much better way back then and young people have it sooooooooo much easier and are spoiled and talentless brats" chain letters are full of self-pitying drivel that's very short on thought and long on manipulative ramble that's designed to make people think everything from the "good ol' days" is good but gone, and everything about the present time is bad, and that by turning back the clock by spreading chain letters, we can get back some utopian bliss that never existed to begin with.

Over and out!
